nicely done there @kwagoner94 I will merge. Please could you make sure you have pre-commit running locally as commit hook. To do that, cd to the repository and type `pre-commit install'.

You have to type conda install pre-commit to be able to run the pre-commit checks locally using pre-commit run --all-files, but you have to type, additionally, pre-commit install to have pre-commit checks running automatically every time you commit.

Ok i have installed and run pre-commit now so it does the pre-comment checks

This PR now seems to have a force-push on it so I am afraid I can't merge it though.
